Project Manager, Electricity and Utilities at MP Ensystems Advisory Pvt. Ltd.

MP Ensystems Advisory Pvt. Ltd., established in 2012, is a niche energy and environmental sector consultancy headquartered in Mumbai with a presence in multiple states in India. We provide analytical support to policy-making and deployment of sustainability solutions; primarily focusing on energy efficiency, renewable energy, clean transportation, agriculture, water conservation, circularity, clean finance, and other related development sector topics. We work with governments, private sector clients, policy-making institutions, multilateral development banks, philanthropies, academia, and civil society organizations to design, implement and evaluate solutions that promote sustainability.

We are hiring a Project Manager with power sector experience to work with our team, lead projects and create co-learning opportunities related to the following sectors.

1. Power sector; specifically related to market development for renewables, demand flexibility, demand response, energy efficiency and clean energy finance sectors

The selected candidate will provide analytical support, evaluating the need for and usefulness of decarbonization of the power sector with specific emphasis on utility-scale and distributed assets deployed in key end-uses such as large and small industries, public utilities, buildings and agriculture post-harvesting processes. The Project Manager is expected to build strong links with distribution companies and electricity regulatory commissions at the state and central levels, state energy planning, other line departments, industry associations and innovators including the start-up community and incubators.

MP Ensystems works on aspects related to clean energy policy, tariff analysis, technology assessments, programmatic interventions, business/revenue models and financing solutions at the individual project and corporate levels. Current and past projects deal with power sector reform, renewable energy storage solutions, utility-driven demand-side management, power markets participation, clean mobility, energy access, energy efficiency and energy transition.

The Project Manager’s role would be to lead proposal development, execution of project deliverables, ensure on-time and within budget implementation, support client relationships and work with the team to identify and execute implementation approaches supporting India’s sustainability goals. The candidate should have experience in electricity regulations, regulatory commissions workings, understanding of demand side management regulations, smart grid regulations, tariff setting process, distribution sector and transmission sector reforms. The chosen candidates shall contribute to pathbreaking and innovative design, implementation, and financing solutions.

2. Development of knowledge resources

MP Ensystems has launched PEAK Global (https://peakglobal.live/), an initiative that provides jobreadiness training to students and professionals for careers in sustainability. PEAK Global conducted two training cohorts in 2020-21 that attracted over 1,000 individuals from the student community from India and other emerging economies.

The Project Manager’s role would be to assist in the development of course content and training modules and in organizing webinars and learning events in relevant sustainability areas. The Project Manager’s role would be also support in identifying partners for collaboration in India, South Asia, Southeast Asia, Africa and other emerging economies.

3. Other Relevant Sectors

Support in other energy and environment sector-related projects related to transportation electrification, built environment, rural value chains, and utility-driven clean energy projects. The selected candidate shall also support activities within other regions in the global south.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree from reputed institutions in India and elsewhere in Energy, Environment, Engineering, Economics or Management

  • 5-6 years experience working in the electricity or energy sectors in regulatory/ discom operations, research/ consulting experience; or experience at businesses involved in delivering clean energy or environmental services

  • Candidates with experience working directly with governments at the state and central levels preferred • Demonstrated experiences in managing projects, including overseeing budgets and meeting deadlines for project delivery

  • Leadership skills to handle end-to-end projects related to energy, electricity, clean transport, agricultural value chains, and knowledge resources in development sectors

  • Self-starter, showing demonstrated interest in energy, environment, and climate-related topics

  • Strong experience in proposal writing and business development efforts to secure new projects and build strong long-term relationships with stakeholders

  • Proficient in data modeling, business plans, report creation, and policy analysis

  • Strong written and oral communication skills

  • Willingness to travel for about 35% of work months

  • Preferred but not mandatory: certifications in energy auditing, energy management, measurement, and verification; experienced in modeling techniques including power analysis and software such as Matlab; LEED certification; PMP certification
